About the Opportunity

RBM is looking for a full-time Geostructural Engineer based in New Orleans Area, Louisiana, with occasional travel as needed to project sites in Texas, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Oklahoma.

This role follows a rotational schedule of two weeks in the field conducting pile driving analysis (PDA) and site inspections, followed by two weeks in the office analyzing test data, preparing reports, and supporting design work for other projects.

Note: Due to shifting project timelines, short-term travel to other testing sites may be required before the Louisiana project is completed. The role is tied to a 10-month+ project in Louisiana, but upon project completion, the engineer may relocate to San Antonio for long-term work or be assigned to other project sites requiring PDA and CAPWAP expertise.

Reporting to Project Manager in charge, you will play a pivotal role in conducting deep foundation inspections, performing PDA testing, and analysis.

In this position, you will be primarily responsible for ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of pile testing operations, collecting and analyzing field data, and collaborating with contractors, field crews, and project managers.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring strict adherence to safety protocols while working in high-risk environments and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
  • Conducting field inspections for deep foundations and earth-retaining structures, including dynamic load testing (PDA) on concrete and steel piles
  • Evaluating PDA test results
  • Placing strain gauges and accelerometers on piles to collect real-time stress and load data
  • Utilizing CAPWAP software to analyze PDA test data and generate engineering reports
  • Coordinating with contractors, superintendents, and project managers on-site to optimize pile driving testing
  • Downloading, processing, and interpreting test data
  • Assisting with foundation design and temporary retaining structure (TRS) design
  • Supporting additional testing and design projects

About You

To qualify, you will need a BS and MS in Civil Engineering with a focus on Geotechnical Engineering, an EIT certification, and 2+ years of experience in geotechnical engineering, deep foundations, or pile driving testing. You will also need proficiency in English, with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in high-risk construction environments to ensure safety and operational accuracy.

  • Commitment to rigorous safety protocols while working with large-scale equipment and heavy machinery
  • Expertise in CAPWAP software for processing PDA test data and conducting signal matching analysis
  • Experience with field instrumentation, including strain gauges and accelerometers
  • Ability to interpret test data, generate detailed engineering reports, and communicate findings with contractors, superintendents, and internal project teams
  • Familiarity with ASTM, AASHTO, and FHWA standards
  • Ability to perform fieldwork in active construction environments, including exposure to heavy machinery, variable weather conditions, and high-noise settings
  • Experience with additional pile testing methods such as Crosshole Sonic Logging (CSL) and Thermal Integrity Profiling (TIP) (asset)
  • A Professional Engineer (PE) license (asset)

As our ideal candidate, you will possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, the ability to work independently in the field while collaborating effectively with teams, and exceptional attention to detail to ensure the accuracy of test results. Your strong communication skills will be key in interacting with contractors, superintendents, and project managers, while your ability to adapt and think on your feet will help you navigate complex field conditions.

This is a high-impact engineering role that requires a detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and technically skilled professional who thrives in both field and office settings. We are looking for someone with a passion for geotechnical engineering and pile testing, eager to apply their expertise to real-world infrastructure projects while growing within a specialized, fast-paced environment.

About the Benefits

Compensation is based on skills and experience, with a competitive annual salary of $85,000 - $105,000, plus a year-end bonus, and a host of excellent benefits, including:

  • Extended Health Coverage (Medical, vision, dental, etc.)
  • 401(k) Plan with company contributions after one year
  • Per Diem for Site Work to cover lodging and incidentals while on-site
  • Vehicle Allowance
  • Relocation Assistance – Support for moving to Louisiana or San Antonio, if required
